Review and Selection Process

White Paper projects will be selected by NIAID based on NIAID programmatic priorities, national priorities, cost considerations, available funds, PFGRC resource capabilities and input from the PFGRC Infectious Disease Panel. Levels of priority (high, medium, and low) for the proposals will be determined; the process will not involve the NIH peer review system.

It is anticipated that the review process will be completed within four-six weeks of the proposal receipt deadline. NIAID may revise this timeline if the number of proposals is more than expected or if other program priorities take precedence. Investigators will be notified electronically by the PFGRC about the status of their proposals. A list of accepted white paper projects will be posted on the PFGRC web site.

Post Selection Process

Once the project is reviewed and selected, the investigators, in collaboration with PFGRC and NIAID staff, must prepare the following:

The investigator or group of investigators must prepare a detailed research plan in collaboration and consultation with the PFGRC and NIAID. The plan must include a detailed strategy, specific information for acquiring the appropriate reagents, and a timeline with milestones for accomplishing specific aims.

The PFGRC will develop a data release and usage plan in consultation with investigator or group of investigators and NIAID, prior to the actual sequencing, based on the data release policy currently followed by the PFGRC.
